St. Mary's Catholic Schools in O'Neill has added a new second grade teacher to its flock for the 2019-20 school year.
Traci Berg taught second grade last year at St. Mary's and is now assisting with Title 1 and resources at the elementary.
She also will serve as a junior high school basketball coach and head high school girl's basketball coach.
Berg is a native of Taylor and a Loup County Public Schools alumna. She graduated from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont with an elementary education degree with an endorsement in coaching and early childhood; and Doane College in Crete with a master's degree in curriculum and instruction.
Prior to joining St. Mary's, Berg taught for nine years at Mead.
Her family includes her husband Ryan Berg and their four children Kinsley, kindergarten; Mallory, first grade; and Drake and Max, both in fifth grade.
"All the kids are in school this year," she said.
Melinda Podany, a native of Phillips and 2012 Aurora Public Schools alumna, will be teaching second grade at St. Mary's.
She graduated from Doane College in 2016 with an elementary education degree with an endorsement in K-8 and special education in K-12 and Doane University in 2018 with a master's degree in curriculum and instruction.
Prior to joining St. Mary's, Podany taught for three years at Grand Island Public Schools.
Her family includes her husband Ryan. The couple is expecting a child in October. Their family also includes their two dogs Auggie and Griffin and cat Ash.
"I love to play sports including golf, volleyball, basketball and softball," she said. "Thank you for the warm welcome. I am so exited to call O'Neill home."
