Three individuals appeared in Holt County District Court on July 8 for charges related to a large drug bust conducted by the Holt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and other area agencies last December. District Court Judge Mark Kozisek presided.

Sheila R. Donohoe, 35, of O’Neill, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, a Class 2 felony. 

The defendant was sentenced to two years probation with credit for 112 days served in jail.

“I appreciated the thorough investigation of this case. Ms. Donohoe was recorded selling methamphetamine and eventually arrested. She had long been a target of our efforts to rid Holt County of illegal controlled substances,” said Holt County Attorney Brent Kelly. “While I do not agree with the Department of Probation recommendations regarding that Ms. Donohoe be sentenced to probation rather than incarceration, I respect the process and accept this result.”

Andrew G. Sidak, 32, of Yankton, SD, formerly of O’Neill, was charged with criminal attempt of possession of a controlled substance, a Class 1 misdemeanor, and third-degree domestic assault, a Class 1 misdemeanor. 

The defendant was sentenced to 18 month probation with credit for four days served in Holt County Jail.

Tara C. Vaughan, 28, of Yankton, SD, formerly of O’Neill, was charged with attempted possession of a controlled substance, a Class 1 misdemeanor. 

The defendant was sentenced to 12 months probation. 

After an extensive three-month investigation by  HCSO, several search and arrest warrants were served on Dec. 6 and 7, 2018, in O’Neill. The O’Neill Police Department (OPD) and Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) assisted. 

According to the sheriff’s office, a traffic stop was conducted on Dec. 6 south of O’Neill near mile marker 179 by their department with the assistance of OPD and NSP.

A 2005 Chevy Silverado was searched. Several grams believed to be methamphetamine, several drug paraphernalia items, portable scale and an undisclosed amount of cash were seized. 

Mark Harrison, 51, of O’Neill was arrested at the scene for alleged possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. He was incarcerated at Holt County Jail and bond was set at 10 percent of $1 million.

Five search warrants were executed on Dec. 7, 2018, at residences in O’Neill by the sheriff’s office with the assistance of OPD, NSP and Atkinson Police Department.

A camper owned by Harrison located near Sixth Street and Fulton Avenue was among the locations searched. A substances believed to be methamphetamine, marijuana and steroids were seized. Drug paraphernalia and firearms also were seized from the camper.

A search warrant also was executed on a storage unit being rented by Harrison. 

Further charges are pending against Harrison for alleged possession of controlled substance-methamphetamine, possession of marijuana less than 1 oz., possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. 

His sentencing date has not yet been set in district court.

A search warrant was served at the residence of Zachary Salers, 30, of O’Neill in the 900 block of East Hancock Street.

Substances believed to be methamphetamine and steroids were seized. Several items of drug paraphernalia also were found.

Salers was incarcerated at Holt County Jail on Dec. 8, 2018, after two arrest warrants were served for distribution of a controlled substance-methamphetamine. His bond was set at 10 percent of $1 million. 

An illegal weapon was found during the search of Salers vehicle. Further charges are pending for an alleged weapons violation, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

His sentencing court date is set for Sept. 23 in district court.

A search warrant was served at the residence of Torrey Peterson, 25, of O’Neill in the 500 block of East Benton Street. 

Substances believed to be methamphetamine and marijuana were seized. Drug paraphernalia and a firearm also were seized. 

HCSO obtained two arrest warrants for Peterson for alleged distribution of a controlled substance-methamphetamine.

A search warrant was served in the 400 block of West Fremont Street. Substances believed to be methamphetamine, marijuana and prescription medications were seized. According to the sheriff’s office a large amount of drug paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of cash also was seized.

His pretrial hearing is set for July 29 in district court.

Andy Casperson, 40, Rebecca Hadenfeldt, 36, Sidak and Vaughan were arrested for alleged possession of methamphetamine and tampering with evidence. Further chargers are pending for alleged possession of marijuana less than 1 oz., possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of prescription medication.

Casperson’s sentencing is set for Aug. 26 in district court and Hadenfeldt will enter her plea on July 15 in district court.

HCSO, through the course of the investigation, obtained two arrest warrants for Donohoe for alleged distribution of a controlled substance-methamphetamine. 

Donohoe was arrested on Dec. 10 and was incarcerated at Holt County Jail. Her bond was set at 10 percent of $1 million.
