Mitchell Equipment of Atkinson has acquired the assets of Beller & Backes, Inc. of Humphrey effective June 1.

The company, located on Highway 81, will be renamed Mitchell Equipment of Humphrey and will continue to operate as a full line Case IH agriculture dealership for Humphrey and surrounding areas.

“The combination of these two stores will provide a platform to leverage a larger equipment and parts offering, along with a wealth of experience to provide the customer service knowledge operations expect today,” Mitchell Equipment, CEO Boyd Mitchell said.

Mitchell founded the company in 1991 as a Case IH dealer. The business continues to operate with his sons Dirk Mitchell - Sales Manager; and Jason Mitchell - Parts Manager. The Service Manager is Bob Shald.

Mitchell noted his company “has always prided itself on being a leader in the area of equipment and planting technology to help its customers operate their machines for maximum productivity and up-time and that will continue.”

“The Beller and Backes business ownership of Ivan Beller, Ken Backes, Rich Bender and Dan Wieser have a long history of being a local family owned business serving central and eastern Nebraska. Mitchell Equipment intends to continue that tradition of local support and we want to be a trusted partner to help our customers be successful in their operations,” Mitchell explained.

The new owner said Humphrey customers will have the same familiar faces serving them with equipment, parts and service needs.

Those faces are: Store Manager - Rich Bender; Sales Manager - Dan Wieser; Parts Manager - Mark Leifeld; and Service Manager - Bob Jansen.

“This Humphrey staff will be working closely with our Atkinson team to provide a larger equipment and parts inventory along with the collaboration of our service teams to provide a great deal of experience with a wide variety of equipment”.

According to Mitchell the combined current Mitchell Equipment team will consist of around 75 people with over 50% of the staff service related.

“Service is the absolute key to the farm equipment business and Mitchell Equipment is always looking for quality individuals that are willing to help provide it.”
