Holt County TeamMates

Holt County TeamMates, in conjunction with the TeamMates mentoring program, is hosting a prize-laden recruiting drive designed to attract more mentors. The local chapter has set a goal of 100 matches by 2020.

Any eligible mentor who applies between Aug. 1 and Sept. 1 will be entered to win one of three prizes:

The top prize is airplane tickets for two people to anywhere in the continental United States (up to $500 apiece) and a three-day hotel stay. The trip is donated by Travel and Transport.

Second prize is tickets to this year's TeamMates Tailgate Gala, which will feature guest speakers Dwyane Wade, the former Miami Heat guard, and his wife Gabrielle Union, an actress and Omaha native.

Third prize is a special but undisclosed "swag bag," featuring TeamMates-branded gear.

"We have all had someone in our lives who saw our potential, pointed out our talents and gave us hope when we needed it most. TeamMates mentors do this same thing by simply being there for youth in our schools each day," said Cheleigh Sholes, Holt County TeamMates program coordinator. "They are everyday heroes for young people who need someone to point out the good and support them on their journey through school and life. Go back to school and become a mentor. You don’t need to know algebra or your ABCs, you just need to be there."

According to Sholes, Holt County board members also will be contacting area businesses seeking volunteers.

"Give the gift of a mentor to a student in your community this year by volunteering or making a donation to TeamMates Mentoring Program," she said.

The TeamMates mentoring program began in 1991 with the vision of University of Nebraska Head Football Coach Tom Osborne and his wife Nancy. The Holt County Chapter was organized in September 2006. Its mission is to positively impact the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential through mentoring.

Holt County TeanMates currently has matches in the following county schools: O’Neill Elementary School, O’Neill Jr.-Sr. High School, St. Mary’s Catholic Schools in O'Neill, West Holt Public Schools in Atkinson, St. Joseph's Catholic School in Atkinson and Stuart Public School.

Adults in these communities are encouraged to join TeamMates and enjoy a new found friendship with one of our deserving youth.

Those interested can complete an application online at TeamMates.org or contact Cheleigh Sholes  at (402) 340-1929 or HoltCoTeamMates@gmail.com.
