This weekend should have been the weekend when both O'Neill Schools should have had their commencement ceremonies. The public school graduation was to be Saturday, May 16 and St. Mary's to follow on Sunday, May 17. Due to the current pandemic situation a parade of seniors will be held on Saturday with the class of 2020 taking to the streets in their cars for a social distancing celebration of sorts. The parade of seniors will start at the Shopko parking lot at 7 p.m. Line-up will begin around 6:30 p.m. with the O'Neill Fire Department to lead the parade which will travel from the Shopko parking lot to 281 and then proceed to the O'Neill Public School parking lot. KBRX radio will be announcing the seniors in the parade as they clear the 4th and Douglas street intersection. The precession will then travel to the O'Neill High School were they will release balloons and a speech will be delivered over the football fields sound system. No one will be leaving their vehicles during the event and social distancing rules will be observed at all times.
The community is invited to park along Douglas Street to help this years graduates celebrate their accomplishments.
College graduates would meet in the parking lot of Northeast Community College and are encouraged to participate in the parade as well.
Sponsored by the O'Neill Chamber of Commerce and KBRX Radio. Both O'Neill Schools are under a Directed Health Measure through May, 31 and are not sponsoring this event.
