The O'Neill Lady Eagles softball team had a busy week playing in Ord and then traveling to Wayne for the Mid-State Conference Tourney.

Thursday's game against Ord was a heartbreaker for The Lady Eagles, as they lost the lead late in an 11-5 defeat. The game was tied at five with Ord batting in the bottom of the sixth when Kendyl Koehlmoos singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

The Lady Eagles struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Ord, giving up 11 runs.

Ord got on the board in the second inning when Allison Moudry hit a solo homer.

The Lady Eagles tallied five runs in the third inning. Morgan Breiner and Alyssa Fehringer both moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Hailee Smith pitched Ord to victory. She surrendered zero runs on zero hits over four and a third innings, striking out five and walking one.

Breiner took the loss for the Lady Eagles. She surrendered 11 runs on 12 hits over six innings, striking out ten.

Maddie Bengston started the game for Ord. She went two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on one hit and striking out one. Ord launched three home runs on the day. Bengston had a dinger in the sixth inning. Moudry went for the long ball in the second inning. Maddie Griffith had a four bagger in the third inning.

Chloe Scott led The Lady Eagles with one hit in three at bats.

Ord tallied 12 hits. Bengston, Alexis Claypool, Smith, Moudry and Griffith all managed multiple hits for Ord. Bengston went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Ord in hits.

On Saturday, Oct.5 it came down to the wire, with The Lady Eagles taking victory on a dramatic walk-off home run in the late innings that sealed their victory over Pierce. The game was tied at ten with The Lady Eagles batting in the bottom of the eighth when Scott homered on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs.

The Lady Eagles collected 18 hits and Pierce had six in the high-scoring affair.

In the first inning, Pierce got their offense started. An error scored one run for Pierce. After Pierce scored two runs in the top of the sixth, the Lady Eagles answered with two of their own. Pierce scored when Addison Sporleder drew a walk, scoring one run and Makinzie Parsons grounded out, scoring one run. The Lady Eagles then answered when Mackenzie Doty singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Breiner got the win for the Lady Eagles. She allowed six hits and nine runs over seven innings, striking out seven. Emma Smith threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Sporleder took the loss for Pierce. She allowed 18 hits and 12 runs over seven and two-thirds innings, striking out eight.

The Lady Eagles smacked one home run on the day. Scott put one out in the eighth inning.

The Lady Eagles collected 18 hits on the day. Smith, Doty, Scott, Breiner, Parks and Wrede each had multiple hits for The Lady Eagles. Smith led The Lady Eagles with four hits in five at bats.

Kaycie Druyor went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Pierce in hits.

The next match of the day saw the Eagles down Boone Central/Newman Grove.The Lady Eagles stole the lead late in the game in a 15-13 victory over Boone Central/Newman Grove on Saturday. The game was tied at 11 with The Lady Eagles batting in the top of the eighth when Wrede grounded out, scoring one run.

Both offenses were strong at the plate as The Lady Eagles collected 15 hits and Boone Central/Newman Grove 15 in the high-scoring affair

Boone Central/Newman Grove opened up scoring in the second inning, when Ashtyn Hedlund hit a solo homer. Boone Central/Newman Grove evened things up at 11 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Avery Olnes homered on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.

Breiner took the win for The Lady Eagles. She allowed 15 hits and 12 runs over eight innings, striking out eight.

Hedlund took the loss for Boone Central/Newman Grove. She lasted two and a third innings, allowing four hits and six runs.

Brooke Groth started the game for Boone Central/Newman Grove. She lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 hits and eight runs while striking out three and walking one Boone Central/Newman Grove hit three home runs on the day. Olnes had a long ball in the seventh inning. Madisyn Cunningham had a dinger in the sixth inning. Hedlund went for the long ball in the second inning.

The Lady Eagles totaled 15 hits. Parks, Scott,  Doty and Breiner each collected multiple hits for The Lady Eagles. Parks led The Lady Eagles with four hits in five at bats.

Boone Central/Newman Grove had 15 hits in the game. Olnes, Cunningham, Groth and Hedlund each had multiple hits for Boone Central/Newman Grove. Olnes went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Boone Central/Newman Grove in hits.
