The O’Neill Eagles competed in two meets last week. The team went to the UNK Invitational. Twenty-seven girl teams with 246 runners competed in the girls race and thirty-four boys teams with 348 runners competed in the Class C division.

The O’Neill Eagles placed 16th in the Class C girls division and the boys placed 15th. The following girls who competed were:  Taya Rainforth 31st, Faith Williamson 52nd, Ally Sedlacek 86th, Alexa Shald 106th, and Alyssa Gdanitz 120th. 

In the boy’s race Brady Thompson placed 30th, Ty Rainforth 67th, Kullen Cartella 94th, Joe Yates 141st, Blake Parks 158th, Servando Gonzalez 168th, Oscar Lopez 175th, Enrique Sanchez 193rd, Lio Dominguez 211th, Kyler Dean 232nd and Jesus Romero 248th.

“Both teams ran well and we saw some things that we can fix. I really think with a couple of adjustments both teams take a couple of steps in the right direction,” said Hilker.

At the West Holt Cross Country Invite the Eagles competed against area schools.  The girls team placed sixth with Williamson medalling 19th,  Rainforth 24th, Sedlacek 36th,  Shald 37th, Yoselin Cayax 39th and  Gdanitz 53rd. 

The boy’s came out on top, winning the team championship. Sophomore Brady Thompson won his first individual gold medal placing first. Rounding out the top fifteen were  Lopez 11th, Rainforth 12th and Cartella 14th.  The rest of the boy’s team competing were, Parks 30th,  Gonzalez 34th, Dominguez 39th, Berren Strope 42nd,  Sanchez, 59th, Joe Yates 67th,  Dean 68th, Romero 81st, Tyler Diediker 90th ,Lukas Dougherty 91st, William Grosch 92nd, Carter Hickey 98th and Justin Beeks 103rd.

“It has been a long time since the boy’s have won the West Holt Invite.  I really feel that we ran well, considering some of the team had three meets in six days.  Overall we took a step forward this week in preparing for the end of the season,” said Coach Hilker.

The O’Neill Eagle Cross Country Team will compete at the Mid-State Conference Invitational, Oct. 10, held in Crofton. The first race will be at 4:30 p.m.
