The O'Neill City Council recently passed an ordinance requiring all-terrain (ATV) and utility-type vehicles (UTV) to be registered with the O'Neill Police Department prior to use within city limits.

The police department began registering such vehicles on June 17. ATV and UTV operators can register their vehicles at 317 S. 4th St. 

All vehicles must be present and inspected when registering. Operator's also are required to bring proof of insurance for the ATV or UTV and a valid driver’s license. The initial registration fee is $30 and renewal registration fee is $15. 

Requirements include: Name, address, proof of insurance, VIN, year, make, model, vehicle color and engine size. The ATV/UTV must have a working headlight and taillight, be equipped with a bicycle safety flag which extends not less than 5 feet above ground attached to the rear of the vehicle. The bicycle flag shall be triangular in shape, with an area of not less than 30 inches that shall be Day-Glo in color. Additional requirements are included in the ordinance.
