The O'Neill Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting on Friday, April 6 for the Beginnings Pregnancy Resource Center at 203 W. Douglas St. in O'Neill.

Many chamber members and a large group of supporters attended the event.

The director of the center is Mandy Chavez. She was hired by the board of directors last August.

The board laid the groundwork for the center by becoming affiliated with Care Net, an organization that supervises over 1,100 pregnancy centers in North America," said Keith Willis.

Chavez describes the center as "a place for both women and men who might find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy situation."

She added that she and volunteer coaches welcome these women and men to the center and help them to find answers to questions they might be asking such as, "What if?" or "What now?"

"We want them to know that they don't have to figure this all out on their own. We're here for them," Chavez said. "Our pregnancy decision coaches are trained in excellent and compassionate client care.  They are dedicated, pre-screened volunteers with the knowledge and genuine desire to help those involved in an unplanned pregnancy situation."

This fulfills the mission of Beginnings which is "to share hope, speak truth and empower these men and women to make educated and informed decisions."

The services offered at the center include lab quality pregnancy tests, limited OB ultrasound, pregnancy decision coaching, sexual risk avoidance education, men’s support services and post abortion support. Additional services to be offered soon include STD testing and treatment, pregnancy and parenting training and a baby supply store. All of these services are free and confidential.

Anyone who is interested in one or more of these services is encouraged to call 402-336-4343 to schedule an appointment during the office hours which are from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays and Wednesdays and 1-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Walk-ins are also welcome. More information can be found at www.beginningspregnncycenter.com
