The St. Mary's girls showed their potential last Friday evening in O'Neill with their 55-54 win over the Elgin Public/Pope John Wolfpack. The Wolfpack, up until their meeting with the Cardinals, had only one loss to their season falling 47-40 to Elkhorn Valley, two weeks before Christmas. This loss puts the Wolfpack at 9-2 on the season while the Cards improve to 8-2 on the season. The Cards have lost to Archbishop Bergan and North Central.
The Lady Cards kept pace with the Wolfpack trailing by seven, 27-20 at the half. The Cardinals put the heat on in the third making back the point deficit from the first quarter.
The fourth quarter was shot for shot and the Cards finally tied the game at 42 with 6:04 in the fourth on a free throw by Alissa Brabec. The Wolfpack kept their offense going shooting a two to go back in front. With 3:21 the score was 44 all. The girls battled with Charley Mlnarik fouling out with just over a minute left. The Cards went up 54-51. The Wolfpack tried to battle back but a foul on Williamson and the free throw sealed the win for the Cards.
Alissa Brabec led the scoring with 16 points, one rebound and three steals; Mya Hedstrom 11 points, three rebounds and two steals; Hope Williamson nine points, nine rebounds and two steals; Lorissa Reiman nine points and seven rebounds; Charley Mlnarik eight points, seven rebounds and two steals; Annabelle Barlow two points, three rebounds and one steal.
