Dear Editor,

The local board of the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library would like to thank the community for all the support and interest that has been shown in the roll-out of the Dolly Parton Library here in the O’Neill area. As of Wednesday (July 17), 99 children had signed up to receive books and another 22 signed up during the painting of the Shamrock.

Special thanks go out to the organizations that have made this possible through generous funding: O’Neill Community Foundation Fund (OCFF), O’Neill Friends of the Library, O’Neill Rotary Club and Alpha Delta Kappa. Without their generosity none of this would have been possible. Beyond that, thank you to KBRX Radio for the wonderful promotion given to get the message out and to The Holt County Independent for the nice front page article.

In the coming months we hope that enrollment continues. The easiest way to enroll is online at imaginationlibrary.com. Forms also are available at O’Neill Public Library and will be at various businesses around town in the coming months.

One final note to the community: This program is only available because of the generous support these groups have given. Enrollment in this first month has far exceeded our expectations and this is a wonderful thing for our community.

While the program comes free to all participating families, the program itself is not free. For each child enrolled, OCFF pays the Dolly Parton Foundation $25 a year. This breaks down to $2.10 per book and this cost includes the cost of shipping. By any measure, this is a remarkable offer to our community.

To make this offering sustainable, citizens of the communities receiving the benefits need to offer support to the community foundation. As the local board, we encourage both business and individuals to join our effort. For $2.10 you can pay for one book. For $25 you can pay for one enrolled child. By working together, we can build a program that can touch every child in our community for years to come.
