Andrew Joseph Knapp, 28, of O'Neill died Monday, May 21, 2021 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha after a short battle with cancer.

Visitation was held on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a prayer service officiated by Linda Lambert.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Andrew was born to Pamela Knapp on Sept. 1, 1992 in O’Neill at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital. He was delivered by Dr. Richard Fitch.

Andrew attended O’Neill Public High School, graduating in 2011. He had exceptional friends in school.

Through his 28 short years, Andrew enjoyed life and his family, with a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews.

His life revolved around his family and gaming. He loved Kira, the dog, deeply. Andrew stayed at home with his mom, providing amazing care to her.

In early 2021, Andrew discovered a lump on the left side of his neck. It was found he had cancer in his tonsil which had spread to his lymph node. He went to Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center and surgery went amazingly well. He returned home 48 hours later.

Two days later he was life-flighted back to Omaha. It was there the Doctors said he had catastrophic brain injury due to loss of blood and oxygen to his brain. He never regained consciousness. Decisions were made and Andrew was put on comfort care. He passed away peacefully several hours later.

Andrew is survived by his mother, Pamela Knapp of O’Neill; five siblings Adam (Roxanne) Tunink of Volin, SD, Travis Tunink (Amy Gatewood) of Mount Sterling, Ohio, Kristina (Ronnie) Cap of Yankton, SD, Joshua Schmit and Noah Schmit, both of O’Neill; nine nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles Daniel (Carrie) Knapp of Ogallala, Debra (Doug) Sanne of Clearwater and Michael (Patty) Knapp of Denver, CO; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Wayne and Nellie Knapp.
